The Avon at Blessington Lakes

Immerse yourself into the great outdoors together. The Irish National Stud

The Irish National Stud symbolises all that is great about County Kildare, the Stud of Irish Legends, the magnificent horses on show, the outstanding natural beauty, the Japanese Gardens, the visitor centre, museum and cafe, the National Stud really has it all. Visitors can also savour the serene experience provided by one of the Stud's more recent additions, St Fiachra's Garden, a stunning representation of the country’s landscape. Kildare Farm Foods Open Farm & Shop

Kildare Farm Foods Open Farm & Shop is an ideal day out for the whole family. You can experience all that is great about country life. This is free of charge for visitors and is buggy friendly and wheelchair accessible. Visitors can see a wide variety of animals including a Zebra, Wallabies, Mara, Pigs, Sheep, Camels, Goats, Deer, Ostrich, Chickens, Fish and Ducks. Russborough House

Russborough House is located in the beautiful countryside near Blessington. This House is spectacular with a fabulous wooden playground, fairy trail and walkways. There is also a walled garden, tree trail & maze to explore that is fun for all the family. You can also do a 2km Audio walking tour of the Demesne Gift Shop & Restaurant. The tea rooms offer the perfect refreshments and you can pick up a souvenir in their gift shop. Children's Art Workshops with Me & the Moon are monthly pop-ups and is a fun day out and rich learning experience for children of all ages.

The parkland is open daily from 10am-6pm. The Cafe is open daily from 10am-5pm.The giftshop and House opens only on Fridays, Saturdays & Sundays from 10am-5pm with tours of the house from 12pm-4pm with the last admission to the house at 3.30pm.

Steam Museum Straffan

The Steam Museum in Kildare is a perfect destination for a family outing. Housed, appropriately, in a church which once stood in the Inchicore railway works. Inside the museum, there’s a fine collection of models of steam locomotives, including two used in the late 19th century by the Great Northern Railway. The museum also has a fine selection of steam engines used for industrial propulsion, including a huge beam engine used in the Midleton whiskey distillery in County Cork, a pumping engine employed in Jameson’s distillery in Dublin, and a large beam engine installed in Smithwick’s brewery, Kilkenny, in 1847.  A Cornish boiler and several small engines are on show. The Entrance Shop sells items of steam and garden interest, and the Steaming Kettle Teahouse can provide coffee/tea and a light lunch if booked in advance. Beyond the Trees- Avondale

Beyond the Trees Avondale is a popular destination in Ireland for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts. This amazing attraction is only one hour drive from Killashee.  Avondale is home to the longest slide in Ireland. Now that is a statement! Are you brave enough to experience it? 

The slide is great fun but it is not the main experience at the Treetop Walk and Viewing Tower. Enjoy your journey along the walkway and immerse themselves in nature. Discover the scenery, the information and activity stations along the way, the amazing trees and landscape that you are passing through and vantage points never gazed from before. The top of the Viewing Tower provides wonderful vistas over the Wicklow Mountains and the Vale of Avoca so please take time to enjoy these before deciding whether you want to use the slide or not.
