While there is plenty to do and see in the County of Kildare, we are also close to many other counties, each with something different to offer the tourist. We have complied a list of ‘Day Trips’ which are within an hour’s drive from Kildare for you to make the most of your trip to Ireland!

Glendalough Valley in Wicklow Mountains & National Park

Is there anything better than escaping into the great outdoors?

Clear your mind and fill your soul at Glendalough Valley in Wicklow Mountains and National Park. Glendalough is a 45 minute drive from Kildare and is one of Ireland’s most scenic and beautiful Tourist Destination. For many years people have been drawn to the Glendalough Valley for its remarkable scenery, rich history, archaeological remains and wildlife. There are 9 walking trails in and around the Valley, from a short half hour walk to a 4 hour uphill hike- The views from the top make it all worth it!

If you are really looking for a challenge in the hike category, County Wicklow is home to the Great Sugarloaf Mountain, 501 metres high, a known hard and steep hike.

Dublin

The Capital of Ireland is only a 40 minute drive and has plenty of attractions to get stuck into including; Guinness Storehouse, Viking Tour, Temple Bar, Phoenix Park, Kilmainham Jail, Stephens Green, National Botanic Gardens and Trinity College. It is also home to many vibrant Restaurant & Bars.

If you’re not looking for the city centre madness you can explore some beaches like Dun Laoighaire or Portmarnock- If you get the weather of course!

Arthurs Way Heritage Trail

Not many people know, the famous Guinness birthplace and first Brewery was in fact in none other than the county of Kildare. Arthurs Way Heritage Trail is a 40 minute drive from Naas, here you can take a stroll or bike ride around the 16km trail and enjoy the scenery while taking a step back in time and seeing where Arthur Guinness’ vision became a reality.

County Kilkenny

Surprisingly only an hour’s drive away. ‘The early bird catches the worm’ as they say, pack your breakfast and get on the road as Killkenny has much to offer including attractions like Kilkenny Castle, Smithwick’s Experience, Black Abbey, Dunmore Cave, Cathedral’s, Museums & Galleries.

Tayto Theme Park & Zoo

One for the Family! Opened from July through to December. 1 Hour drive from Kildare in County Meath is Tayto Theme Park & Zoo, based on the Irish Potato Crisp Company, this is Irelands first Theme Park and Zoo. A fun day out for everyone with activities including; Wall Climbing, Rollercoaster and Rides, 5D Cinema, Viking Park, Dinosaur Park, Zoo & Farmyard friends and Tayto Factory Tour. There are also a number of shops and restaurants onsite for you to stay refreshed!
